Exit the Weight Loss Roller Coaster! Build a Strong Metabolism and Achieve Lasting Results

Have you ever lost a bunch of weight just to put it all back on plus more? The main reason so many of us are stuck on this roller coaster of weight loss and weight gain is that we kill our metabolism with intense dieting and cardio.

The roller coaster begins when we get to busy to exercise, indulge in our favorite treats and eventually gain weight… Tick Tick Tick Tick Tick. One day you look in the mirror and realize where you have gotten yourself… the top of the roller coaster of course! So you throw your hands in the air in anticipation of the ride back down.  You lose your stomach (pun intended) and the weight comes off with ease as you soar through the loops and twists of dieting and daily cardio.

Quick victories in decreasing that pesky number on the scale makes sever calorie restriction and countless hours on the treadmill seem like the best way to lose weight.  However, you’re definitely not doing yourself any favors in the long run by over-training and under eating.

Phew! The number on the scale is back to normal! However as time goes on the stresses of life begins to take over… tick tick tick tick tick.  This time the ride to the top is much quicker and you even notice that the top of the roller coaster (and the number on the scale) is a bit higher than last time.  But no worries, you have been here before and know exactly what works for you! So you go back through the twists and loops of dieting and exercise.  Weather you make it all the way back to the bottom again or not you eventually begin to put weight back on and notice that losing it is getting tougher and tougher…Tick Tick Tick.

Your body only has the ability to metabolize fat stores at a certain rate.  Therefore, when you go into a sever negative net calorie state your body is forced to break down your valuable muscle and use it for energy.  You might be thinking to yourself, “So what!? I can spare a little bit of muscle as long as that number on the scale is going down”.

The reason muscle is so valuable is because it burns calories just by being present in your body!! Pretty cool right?  Studies have shown that 1 pound of muscle can burn anywhere between 25-50 calories per day!  Along with increasing your basal metabolic rate the natural progression of a strength training program results in exponential calorie consumption within each workout.  This is absolutely crucial in avoiding plateaus and can even bust you out of one.

By burning off muscle you are essentially depleting your basal metabolic rate which means you will have to work increasingly harder to achieve the same fat loss with cardio and dieting alone.  Doesn’t seem like a sustainable option does it? This is how we get stuck in this nightmare of a ride!

Therefore, your ticket off this horrible roller-coaster is to achieve a balanced lifestyle that not only burns fat but builds muscle!
